Dr. Sharma Joseph is an anesthesiologist, critical care specialist and Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Tufts University School of Medicine. She is Chief of Policy at Community Health Design Corps where she seeks to expand the healthcare workforce, systems and technology in underinvested communities especially those that experience high racial disparities and have poor access to care. Dr. Joseph is the Co-Chair of Tufts’ Committee on Diversity and Inclusion and a member of Massachusetts Medical Society’s Minority Affairs Section and its Committee on Diversity. As well, she is a Health Policy Fellow at the Massachusetts State Senate. There, her work centers on recommendations to reduce or eliminate racial disparities in maternal health. Prior to Tufts, Dr. Joseph served in numerous roles in education, procedure analysis and innovation at Boston Medical Center, the largest safety net hospital in New England.


Dr. Joseph holds a Bachelor’s in Microbiology and Immunology from McGill University, a Doctor of Medicine from Case Western Reserve University, an Internship in Anesthesiology from the University of Chicago, a Residency in Anesthesiology from Massachusetts General Hospital, a Fellowship in Critical Care from Johns Hopkins University and an MPH in Health Policy from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
